One of the most frustrating issues that many Community Managers that I know have to deal with is haggling for development time. Most businesses don’t have enough developers to cover their workload, and community is oftenprioritised way down the list because CMs can’t justify the value.
The first thing you need to do to combat this is have a very clear ROI based objective.
That might be an increase in customers through advocacy. It could be increased staff productivity through knowledge sharing. In our case, it is increased revenue through affinity and familiarity leading to purchases/membership (but we don’t have a dev team at all ).
Have you got a clearly defined ROI based objective?
(If you need help identifying one, feel free to ask. There is a useful ROI cheat sheet in our Resources section as well.)
