Notifications v Subscriptions v Digests

Hi all -

Usability is the name of our game right now and I’m working on alert settings…needless to say, the advil is close by. We are using Telligent (Zimbra) and have digests, subscriptions, and notifications (alerts) enabled. The set-up has the user navigating to three different tabs in order to fully customize their experience. I fear we will lose the user with this many steps, but am having trouble finding some examples of how other sites have dealt with the site architecture constraints.

Do any of you have examples of how you have managed, or messaged the email/in-system alerts for your users?

Thanks in advance!
Katie

Definitely the right way to go about things, and make it as simple as possible to change these settings. In our Salesforce Community we manage this on a per group level, where users can change their settings for each group whilst in there. They can also change the settings in general if they wish via their general settings.

I don’t know much about Telligent, I do know that @Chris_Detzel’s community, The Grid, is based on Telligent.

@Rob_Howard started (and continues to run) Telligent, so let’s call him in for expert assistance.

@Michael and @stevebridger also have experience with the platform.

As an aside, I ran a workshop that included a module about notifications that might have some useful info. It doesn’t talk specifically about platform setups, but it does highlight best practices. You can watch the recording here – sorry about the accent.

Thanks @HAWK and @Nick_Emmett - I appreciate the thoughts! The webcast helped narrow my focus to simplicity with options. This detail in combination with this thread - http://ux.stackexchange.com/questions/48214/best-layout-for-a-settings-page should help point me in the right direction. I’ll try to keep this thread updated with how we progress!

This may be over-orchestrating this fix, but does anyone have a brief quiz or other visual to help users understand what would work best for them? Thinking of a ‘i like information real time, i like information via email, etc’

Katie,
I can’t give you exact answers to this, but Telligent has a great community of training videos and a place to ask questions. What version are you on? We just upgraded to the latest. This link is to all their videos https://community.telligent.com/training/w/management90 and this one is to their community to ask questions. https://community.telligent.com/community/ Good luck!

Chris

Thanks @Nick_Emmett
