So… I’m Nick Emmett. I’m the Community Manager for FinancialForce.com, where I’ve been managing the Community in an official capacity for 7 months and full time for 4. I also used to manage a fledgling internal community at Direct Line before being made redundant from my primary role there. I’ve been in and around the FeverBee forums for a while now and have just taken the step to join the Growth Club and get my teeth into the On Demand training.
I’ve recently finished the first course, How To Start an Online Community and am now working my through How to Grow and Online Community.
Looking forward to some conversation in this category about who’s in and how everyone’s finding it. What we’re learning and how we can use it in our roles back at the office!
Hi @Nick_Emmett nice to meet you. It sounds like you got some exciting challenges ahead of you at Financialforce.com I work for a nordic company called Visma, we deliver all sorts of software to anything from small start up companies to enterprises. All our software is geared at making their lives easier with automating all the boring admin stuff so that they can focus on their business.
I’m currently taking the course Advanced Community Strategy, since I’m not a community manager but a digital marketing manager I’m responsible for creating a community strategy that community managers (who of course will be involved in creating the strategy) will be implementing in their communities.
I’m currently just done with covering the different life cycle stages an online community goes through and look forward to further progressing into the course and finishing my strategy.
Hey everyone. I’m Vernon “Bo” McGuffee, the Community Manager of FatWallet.com. FatWallet is a deal site that includes Cash Back, Best Deal pages, and community forums. I’ve only been in the position for about three months, but (as of today) I’ve been with the company for 9 years (previously as a moderator).
I’ve almost worked my way through the first course (How to Start an Online Community). How am I using it at the office? As I attempt to “reinvent” our community, the material here is indispensable. It has given me focus, methods, and language to address the task at hand. All in all, great stuff.
I have yet to find the time to peek into the Growth Club. I’ll pop in eventually, but since Black Friday and the December holidays are the busiest time of the year for us, it won’t be too soon.

“How To Start An Online Community”
Our communities are already pretty established, but things are pretty dynamic around here, so it’ll be good to be prepared for the future! Who knows when we’ll need to start a new one, and I have never started a community from scratch.
Correct Suzi, it never does any harm to equip yourself with more knowledge. I’m learning plenty from the courses. Let us know how you get on.
Hi all! I am a Community Manager at Course Hero, an ed tech company providing online study resources for college students. I help run and manage our communities of students and interns remotely on campuses in the Southeastern region of the US (although I am based out of our headquarters in Silicon Valley). I’m about 80% through the first course, and plan on taking the other 2 as well!

My name is Ann-Marie and I have just started a FeverBee course today. I worked for Breast Cancer Network Australia as their online community coordinator. Hi Nick, I have just started “how to start an online community”. For me it’s about becoming more of rounded Community Manager. Everything I have learnt to date has been self taught. Jumping in the deep end and swimming (which I am sure many people have been in the same boat). So going back to the basics. Getting an understanding from the start. I have been a sponge for a long time learning what I can from the people around me. I look forward to all the tips and tactics.

So I am taking “How to build an Online Community” and I am at exercise 1: Identify Genuine Communities. The community that I am working on is “Breast Cancer” so the boundaries and interest are very clear here. Outside of my full time job I am creating a Fitness community for Fitness Instructors Globally, again boundaries and interest are clear here as well. Is anyone else working through this section or has completed this course that can add some comments here? Thank you
