Community Manager's Salary

(Nikoletta Harrold) #1

Hi guys, Alexandra and I were having an interesting conversation this morning about CM salaries. We have both been in the situation recently that we had to negotiate for our salaries and can’t find any good market information out there. (The CR does some studies but I found their publication uninspiring). So we are asking YOU (Yes you) if you have 2 spare minutes to fill out this form for us and share your skills and salary experiences. (totally anonymous).

We are happy to share the results if you want to, just comment below.

Here is the link:

Buffer released their employee’s salaries recently online, pretty bold move! Have a look, it might help to gather some market information:

I’ll probably fill out that form later today!

(Nikoletta Harrold) #3

I will take a look. Any and all survey answers are welcome and much appreciated!

To save people having to read the full Buffer article, I’ve pulled out the community roles. All in $US. (These are calculated based on role, location, experience and length of time w/ Buffer.)

Nicole – Community Champion – 2014-04-14 – Portland, OR – $88,861
Alfred – Community Champion – 2015-09-14 – Singapore – $59,112
Arielle – Community Champion – 2015-10-26 – Philadelphia, PA, USA – $67,418
Darcy – Twitter Hero – 2015-11-17 – Fort Collins, CO – $70,193

I’m obviously massively underpaid and living in the wrong country.

(Sarah Hawk) #6

And with a boring job title?

(Nikoletta Harrold) #7

Where do you live and what is your title? Would love your insights in the google survey…

(Darren Gough) #8

@Nikoletta_Harrold how have the results been one week in?

(Shreyas) #9

Perhaps this might also be of some help:
This is Linkedin’s attempt on bringing salary transparency to the world.

We have about a 100 responses. We are doing another push to get more answers before running evaluation. As soon as that’s done (probably another week) we will start the analytics! I will keep you posted.

@Nikoletta_Harrold I will fill this out tomorrow! I have a feeling that mine will be one of the lower salaries only because Orlando is not the best at salaries and the whole city is still learning what a Community Manager is

Always found Buffer’s approach to employees and operations pretty interesting. Not everything has worked out (getting rid of all hierarchy, for one) but the way they document the experience and what they learn from things is fascinating.

(Sarah Hawk) #13

Have you had a chance to collate the results on this yet @Nikoletta_Harrold?

(Nikoletta Harrold) #14

Yes, the analysis has started as of this morning. Will keep you guys posted as soon as i have a release date for the insights.

(Nikoletta Harrold) #15

just a quick update, the draft blog has been submitted to CMX for publishing. i think it is slated to be online next week. If and when it’s available i will share the link.

(Nikoletta Harrold) #16

Hey Everyone! Thanks for your patience…the results for USA and Canada have been published!

(Sarah Hawk) #17

Wow, the range across geographical areas is marked! Is this typical of salaries in the US generally?

(Nikoletta Harrold) #18

Yes. The west coast and the north east coast cost of living is double or triple of some of the central areas of the US! Hence salaries are inflated at similar (but not equal) levels.

(Sarah Hawk) #19

Ah yup, that makes sense. Thanks!

Hi guys, the European salary insights have been released by CMX:
