Building a renewable energy community

(Darren Gough) #1

Hi everyone,

I have a client looking to build a renewable energy community off the back of a website. The mission statement from the site is:

Learn about & compare sustainable energy solutions for your home or workplace”

The concept is that this will become your one stop shop for case studies, product reviews and advice on everything from buying an electric car through to smart home product installation.

It’s a pretty interesting area but also a sector I know very little about personally and am devouring information as fast as I can!

So as far as the community goes, we have a Discourse test set up and want to start bringing both experienced members in (either purchasers or experts), as well as attract members needing help with their new renewable journey.

We’ve collated a decent size list of groups from around the net who tend to specialise in one thing (i.e. product (e.g. Nissan Leaf) or passion (e.g. Smart Meters). What this community will help do is bring people to a place where they can find help, expertise and comparison information for ANY renewable energy product.

I’d be interested if anyone has any experience in this sector or space, and how you’d go about attracting your first 50 > 100 members and beyond. Frenemies or other communities you might know doing this well would also be of interest.

With all the sun in the UK this week I really wish I had solar panels

Happy to answer any questions (and thanks!)

Fascinating. I would love to be part of something like this as it is an area I am interested in, but not an expert, sadly.

Happy to provide ideas if I can

I too wish the panels I am having installed later this summer had been in place already :frowning:

Thanks @thirstforwine. Enthusiasm very welcome! I’ll send you an invite when we’re slightly further ahead. Could you DM me your email for the list - ta!

How do you incentivize profile completion?

Hi @Darren_Gough , at Montfort we’ve recently helped launch One Home, which also aims to be a one stop shop for taking action on climate change:

Rather than a forum, we’ve gone for a Facebook Group:

We launched two months ago and have over 100 members signed up via the website and growing daily.

Happy to chat to exchange ideas - feel free to email me at
