[10 April] What are you working on this week?

(Sarah Hawk) #1

Eeeek. These posts are starting to make me realise how I keep reshuffling my priorities and am not getting the big wins make.

I did get through my bookmarked tasks last week, which was good, but then I got sidetracked with building launch pages for our next courses.

I need to get back to my superusers project again this week – and then Easter break!

What are you working on for this short week?

(Lindsay Doebler) #2

I finally finished my article on toxicity (it’s off to the editor now!), so now I’m back into the research stage with a new topic.

I’ve been doing a lot of lurking while reading up on getting lurkers to participate more. I realized that was a little too ironic so I felt like I should post something, especially since I’ve learned so much from this community! Really loving @Suzi_Nelson’s case study, super interesting stuff in there. I’m also trying to dig up some more studies and research into the psychology behind lurking.

Definitely a lot of reading for me this week!

(Sarah Hawk) #3

Congratulations on finishing the article – I look forward to reading it!

So lurkers is your next topic? That’ll be interesting. I think as CMs we tend to fixate on lurkers a bit because they are ‘the unknown’. I wonder what the value in getting them to engage is, outside of cracking a potential issue that acts as a barrier.

(Lindsay Doebler) #4

Yeah, lurking seems to be a topic that pops up no matter what type of community it is - educational, hobby, professional, etc. I think you’re right - there’s a desire to streamline the system to make engaging and participating easier or more appealing, so examining why lurkers don’t participate can help.

(Nikoletta Harrold) #5

Can’t wait to read your articles @ldoebs… both are super interesting topics!

@HAWK- I totally feel your pain. I went through 22 items of my to-do list last week and yet, still had to move 8 more to this week… yuck… it never ends…

This week our priority is our Phase II launch in our A/B test launching to internal people… and building out the plan for extending our invites to all employees to our community and slowly scaling into the public. I am excited and cautious at the same time. Tackling launch and platform change considerations at the same time is really not easy as I learned last week… Looking forward to seeing what other’s are working on this week.

I remember a Marrisa Mayer quote along the lines of “you should never get to the bottom of your to-do list, that means you’re working on really unimportant stuff”.

What sort of messaging do you have for internal employees?

(Nikoletta Harrold) #7

We have invited a select few to be our beta testers. We call them super secret agents…

(Richard Millington) #8

I like it!

(Mark Baldwin) #9

This week we will be announcing the winners of our “Name a Horse” competition. and yes, HorseyMcHorseface was mentioned.

(Sarah Hawk) #10

Sounds hilarious – but why are you naming a horse?

(Mark Baldwin) #11

There is a popular section in our football game where you can buy a stable and then buy, train and race horses for extra income. We like our puns, so most of the horses you can buy are a play on words. We’ve just had the Grand National race, so we thought it would be a good idea to engage our fans and ask them for suggestions for horse names in the game and then we put the best suggestions to a vote and now today we will be sharing images of those suggestions in the game.

Neighmar, Legsxit, Hoof Hearted and Royal Air Horse are the ones that made it into the game btw.

(Richard Millington) #12

I’ve read this twice and this sentence still doesn’t make sense to me.

What am I missing here?

(Mark Baldwin) #13

Context. You need to play the game to fully understand, but I will expand on this for you.

The game is all about your career as a young footballer and rising up through the leagues to eventually play for your country and win everything you can. There is also a light rpg element to the game where you have to balance relationships with fans, boss, team, partner and sponsors. Part of this is your lifestyle as a footballer and you can attract more sponsors by having more lifestyle items, so you can buy items/vehicles and property and all of these add different boosts/perks. If you buy a stable, you can then also buy, train and race horses to gain more in game currency. The horse racing mini game is also accessible via the casino.

You did ask.

This week I signed away my summer - I registered for 16 hours worth of classes. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

(Sarah Hawk) #15

What are you learning? Is this an extension of your social media stuff?

(Piper_Wilson) #16

Three of the classes are for the social media degree:

  • Social Media, Law and Ethics
  • Social Media Tools: Monitoring and Analysis
  • Technical and Business Writing

The other two classes will complete the core curriculum requirements for the State of Texas.

Math = EEEK!

I seem to joining these threads at the back of the week for some reason, must pay more attention to how I start my weeks - especially as this is a short week for me here!

Our project is still going on here to migrate content from our other customer facing website - we’re sun-setting it as at the minute people need to go to one of two places to get information and it’s now all going to be under one rook - the community.

I got way-laid in my mission to revisit where my CTAs are, where they should be, could be and what they should/could say so have been giving that some thought this week, next week is more likely though. This was fuelled a little by @richard_millington’s recent post about Drop offs and cohort analysis and the great linked video talk.

Try and get close to done with my slides for our two main customer community events later in the year.

Reach out to several of our members to say hi and how I can help them.
Generally I do this for those that I see posting in the forum area but I’m going to start reaching out this week to people who I don’t necessarily see in there and how probably lurk and consume some of our other areas.
